Extinction Eruption

A 2D animation made of a volcanic eruption endangering the prehistoric environment of a parasauropholus.

2D Environment and Characters

The parasaur, volcano, and desert sand and cliffs were made in Adobe Illustrator.

Animated in After Effects

Illustrator files were imported in After Effects and animated alongside video overlays and simulated effects.

Cartoon Parasaur used in eruption animation.

Parasaur

The parasauropholus was created in Adobe Illustrator. Each body part was created on a separate layer so the dinosaur could be expressively animated.

Eruption effects of the animation.

Eruption

The fire and burning rocks were created using fire and explosion overlay videos, resized and postioned to the volcano and rock illustrations to create the firey eruption of the volcano. For the lava, After Effect's mercury simulation was used. Two separate simulations were used, one for the lava coming from the crater of the volcano, and another for the lava flowing over the valley's sands. The color, refrection, gravity, and direction of the simulation were edited to look like a red magma.
